The West Beach Neighborhood is an active cultural, recreational, and historical area adjacent to the SB Harbor. It is characterized by a combination of Spanish-style motels along the ocean frontage of Cabrillo Blvd, merging into an attractive residential area of single and multi-family dwellings to the north. A mixed-use area of commercial and residential is located along Montecito Street.
This area contains Pershing and Ambassador Parks, the latter containing Burton Mound (former site of one of the largest Chumash villages on the South Coast), as well as the potential West Beach Historic District. The Santa Barbara City College campus is located at the west side of this neighborhood, up on the Mesa.
Our annual 4th of July Fireworks show is held at West Beach and is also the starting point for the Fiesta Parade. Historical highlights include the Moreton Bay Fig Tree, Plaza del Mar, Santa Barbara Carriage and Western Art Museum, Stearns Wharf, SB Harbor, SB Yacht Club, Maritime Museum, the Breakwater, Los Banos Del Mar Pool, MOXI Museum, Dolphin Fountain (at the base of State Street), SB train station, Veterans Memorial Building and the beginning of the 3 1/2-mile walking circle.
